Captain Dick Stafford reports from the U.P
Lake Michigan
This winter has produced good to excellent catches in Lake Michigan. Good
catches of both perch and walleye have been taken in Little Bay de Noc. As soon
as the ice leaves, try fishing for perch just off the Gladstone Harbor in 28 -
32 feet of water. Another good spot is at the head of the bay off Rapid River.
Walleye season opens in U.P. waters on May 15th. Numbers are expected to be
very good.
Lake Superior
Coho have been biting along the shore of Lake Superior. Excellent catches
have been reported in such places at Marquette's lower and upper harbors,
Shelter Bay, and Munising. Steelhead are starting to travel up streams now for
spawning. Check for what streams are open for fishing. Streams emptying into
Black River Harbor will also produce good numbers of Steelhead and coho.
